The year 1939.. and "Joseph Goebbels"; Hitler's Minister of Propaganda, is coming back home after a long day's work.. and spending an intimate night with his wife "Magda Goebbels".. and with the cocktail of hormones surging through his veins, and the "melatonin" released into his blood.. and with his nerves stretched taut all day long.. he finally begins to doze off.. and sinks into a deep sleep.
"Magda" stays up a while.. and picks off the nightstand a book she had taken from the municipal library.. an old book.. a reprint of an ancient manuscript roughly 400 years old.. its title was "The Prophecies".
What is written stirs "Magda's" curiosity and fascination, so she leafs through it at random.. and then she starts to be afraid and terror takes hold of her.. so she wakes "Goebbels" to talk to him about the book.
The last thing in existence a man working with "Hitler" all day long could possibly care about, a man who spent physical effort and went to sleep, so that he wakes in the morning and is at his office before "Hitler" arrives at five in the morning.. is prophecies written four centuries ago.. so of course "Goebbels" woke up determined to hit the first creature he saw with his shoe.. but after he read four lines.. he could not believe that this book had been written 400 years ago.. and after he read more.. sleep flew from his eyes entirely.
The book had been written by a man named "Michel de Nostredame".. a monk and physician and poet and expert in languages and professor of mathematics.. and there was in "Goebbels'" hands in the book lines speaking of a man who would be born in Germany.. from a poor broken family.. with extraordinary charisma and supreme skill in writing and oratory.. who would be able to seduce a vast army.. with which he would occupy lands and cross rivers.. and various armies would ally against him to defeat him and bring him down.
And although the book referred to this unknown person by the name "Hesler".. it was entirely clear.. that this talk was tailored to "Hitler" to the letter.
"Goebbels" stays up reading the book until morning.. and he discovers that the book in his hand is an 1829 edition.. more than a century before their time.
The sun rises as he reads with the utmost attention and passion.. and then he puts on his military uniform, and takes the book to his office.. and the plan takes shape in his mind.. and he decides to exploit the book in a new propaganda campaign in the war, the like of which no propaganda apparatus had ever resorted to before.
He presents the idea to "Hitler" himself.. and he likes it very much and they begin to carry it out with the utmost precision and speed.
And through German agents at the heart of Europe.. the spreading of rumours began that "Hitler" would overrun all of Europe.. and that "Nostradamus" had foretold that four centuries ago.
And "Goebbels" begins dropping leaflets by air over European cities.. "Hurry up, everybody.. you are going to be defeated.. this is a very old prophecy.. there is no use."
And people began to buy the book to see how true the talk was.. and it turns out to be true.. there is a person who foretold that "Hitler" would be born and would overrun Europe.. 400 years ago.
And the European security and intelligence apparatuses monitored the rumour campaign.. and raised it to the Allied leaders.. who smiled sarcastically.. and mocked the matter and dismissed it as utterly foolish.
And on 14 June 1940; the Allied leaders wake up to a black nightmare.
Paris falls.
The reports that were submitted at the time said that the French soldier on the outskirts of Paris was tense and defeatist.. his morale utterly collapsed.. he is entering a battle knowing that he will lose it.. there is a man who foretold his defeat 400 years ago.. with fear and tension and continuous frustration people weaken and become ready to believe anything.. and consequently they lose "the war of minds".
The truth is that the countries of Europe had already begun to fall before "Hitler's" forces like dominoes.. and in a single strike he had occupied Norway and Holland and Denmark and Belgium.. and behind them he went into Croatia and Monaco and Slovakia and Romania and others.
And then the book's tales about "Hesler" come to an end.. and "Goebbels" is at a loss.. what should he do.. so he begins to compose new pages of his own.. referring to "Hitler's" victory and "Germany's" triumph.
The first to grasp the mistake was England.. which immediately began a counter-propaganda campaign using the same book.. so it went about translating and printing hundreds of thousands of sheets containing any lines that refer, even from afar.. to the defeat of "Germany".
And then London presents Paris with an extremely valuable gift.
They review the history of "Michel de Nostredame" and discover that he was originally French.. so they reprint his book, after calling on professors and titans of French literature, to compose new pages.. which they inserted into it as though they were part of the original manuscript.
And because those who wrote these pages were experts.. they wrote them in the same pattern and style and even language as the original author.
And new editions of "The Prophecies" appear.. speaking of the people forming factions of resistance against the Nazis.. and of the courage of the people of France.. and the strength of the people of France and the genius and shrewdness of the people of France.. and its painful blows that will defeat the Germans.
And the fearsome German intelligence service, the "Sicherheitsdienst" monitors this movement.. and the disaster is that the "Gestapo" is submitting its reports that there are pages of these in German.. that were smuggled through Allied agents to the German people.. and that they are written with a precision and artistry impossible to distinguish from the original pages.
And here "Goebbels" brings a private soothsayer.. his name is "Karl Ernst Krafft".. to forge for him new prophecies referring to Hitler's victory.. to use against the Allies' prophecies!
That is why, if you want to buy the original "Nostradamus" book.. the one with no fake parts in it.. always go back to an edition dated before the year 1939.
This edition, by the way, contains a prophecy about Egypt.. and that Egypt will produce a "false trumpet that leads to madness".. and after it a man will come out of it.. because of whom "Turkey" will change its laws.. this man will overturn the situation.. and abolish laws and issue decisions and change the currency.. and there will be new values for money and metals.
A false trumpet concealing madness, One who will cause Byzantium to change its laws: Coming from Egypt one who will want to see them reversed, The edict that changes the value of money and metals.
I wonder, who does this prophecy refer to? And I wonder, is it even correct?
Never mind.. the important thing is that.. and with this mental battle, the French resistance battalions really do come into being, and then popular resistance units come into being, in all the cities of Europe that "Hitler" entered.
But because "Hitler" was ahead in the field of the war of minds.. he was still in control.
And although he had signed a non-aggression treaty with the Soviet Union.. nevertheless, in 1940.. he meets with the Axis leaders and they lay down the first outlines of a plan called "Plan Otto".. which later develops into the mistake of his life.. which bore the name "Operation Barbarossa".
