Khaleeha Tesaddi.. and the sixth of October, 1973, at exactly ten minutes to two.. and the last scene monitored by the Israeli reconnaissance forces is a scene of Egyptian soldiers on the bank of the Canal.. playing football, washing their clothes and cooking.. and some of them relaxing or lying about in idleness, sleeping however they please with their jaws hanging open.
But exactly ten minutes later these soldiers get up and stop the elaborate act they had been performing, and each of them picks up his weapon and bares his fangs, while the Egyptian Air Force flies over their heads at extremely low altitudes to evade the radars, in a strange direction it had not flown in for six whole years.. from west to east.
The Egyptian fighters swoop down on the enemy, and bomb aircraft, airports, command centers, radar stations, electronic jamming means, air-defense batteries, soldier bunkers, armored and tank and artillery formations, the strongpoints of the Bar-Lev Line, oil refineries and ammunition depots.
The United States rushes in to help its permanent ally, and its leaders meet with a speed that matches the gravity of the event, and on 10 October they come out with a plan they called "Operation Nickel Grass".. under which dozens of aircraft carrying equipment, weapons and ammunition travel from America to Israel so that it can hold out and be able to carry on fighting.
Not many know what is coming, but the Soviet Union at the time made a similar bridge for us, the Soviet airlift, and it was supplying us and supplying Syria with weapons as well.. but the Soviet bridge was a mere toy compared with the American convoy.. in addition to the fact that 80% of the Soviet bridge was directed to Syria.
And on 15 October 1973 King Faisal, Sheikh Zayed and Sheikh Sabah III, may God have mercy on them, meet.. and revive an old decision that had been issued in 1967.
The decision to halt oil supplies to the countries that help Israel.. and the three leaders carry the decision out.. and history records this stand under the name "the 1973 oil crisis, or the 1973 Oil Embargo".
And oil is suddenly cut off from the United States.
And in a single day and night cars pile up in the heart of America in the streets and in front of petrol stations, and millions are unable to go to their work, and heavy facilities such as ambulances, the police and civil protection break down.
And the United States returns in a moment to the age of the bicycle, the horse and the horse-drawn carriage.
The war ends and the crisis passes.. but after this crisis a new school is born in America in the science of transport engineering.
The school of "mass transport".
We have to get people back to riding public transport and means of mass transit, and to stop driving cars.
So what is the solution? They said, let us build a metro.. a tram.. buses.. means of mass transport, and let them be of a standard.. such that they encourage the car rider to leave it.. and ride this transport.
But there is now a big psychological obstacle.
People have come to see the car rider as respectable, chic and classy.. and the rider of the bus and the tram as tacky, bare and lowly...!
This idea has to change.. and from here you began to see in the metro and the bus senior officials, football players and singers, as though they had been photographed by chance.. so that this idea would change.
And a strong, rapid development of the means of mass transport began.. starting with making them more elegant and comfortable.. and ending with the existence of ramps and special stairs for wheelchairs, and supports to aid the elderly and people of determination.
And people begin to look at mass transport with interest.. and to use the means of public transport.
Think about it.. imagine that the "tram", metro and bus in the country were suddenly abolished.. and all their passengers became able to buy cars at a cheap price.. and took to the streets driving their cars.
No one would be able to move, neither in a car nor even on foot. A catastrophe would happen.
But the car and oil companies do not keep quiet.. and they begin a new war on the means of American transport, and the United States responds to it with a new, ingenious and innovative method.
