On the science fiction theme of "Teleportation".. a short story is written called The Fly.. the scientist "Karl" performed the experiment on himself.. and teleported himself from one place to another in his laboratory.. but there was a fly with him in the transfer chamber.. his face was swapped with the fly's face.. and he didn't know what to do.. so he put his fly head under a strong metal press.. and pressed the button.. and ended his life.

The theme of this story carries within it another theme from the world of science fiction.

8 - Biological metamorphosis.. in a novel by "Kafka" of the same name.. its hero turns into a giant cockroach. "Kafka" in general was a bomb of optimism.. and to write his gloominess you almost need to be mad.. there is also the famous short story "The Fly" by the French writer "George Langelaan".. it was made into a film of the same name "The Fly"... the eccentric scientist "Seth Brundle" performs this experiment.. and a fly enters the teleportation chamber with him.. he is teleported to the other transfer chamber.. and comes out feeling unnaturally energetic and active.

"Seth" is surprised to find himself stronger than usual.. fast, active.. we talked about insects before and learned how they are in fact very strong.. insects have been found at the pole and in volcanoes and in the heart of nuclear reactors. So in truth "Seth" possessed super powers, when his genes merged with the fly's genes.

True, he became disgusting and slimy and vile, exactly like flies.. but he didn't know what had happened, and he imagined that teleportation had refreshed his cells and cleansed his body of toxins.. until the transformation became glaringly sudden.. and he learned that the computer had found another being with him in the transfer chamber.. so it had merged their genes together.

Could this happen in reality like the film or the story? In reality.. scientifically.. no.. a human has 23 pairs of chromosomes.. a fly has only 6.. human DNA, when it is damaged or altered, and this happens in our bodies hundreds of thousands of times a day.. the cell repairs it.. and if the damage exceeds repair.. and turns into a danger.. the cell gets rid of it.

So in truth, no, "Seth" would not have turned into a fly.. he might have fallen ill and taken to his bed for several days until his cells repaired the damage.. or at worst, he would have gotten cancer and died. This, then, is a story of "soft science fiction". This story contains theme number 9, "Human fears".. transformation and change and the horror of physical decay.. which you see in every zombie film.

9 - The theme of human fears has very many branches.. the most famous of them are the films of the undead.. zombies.. which are soft science fiction beyond dispute.. no dead person is going to get up and run after people biting them.. these films also walk on the edge of soft science fiction.. meaning one more step and they turn into nonsense and fall into the bucket and come under the heading of idiocy.

Zombie or undead films always talk about a virus with no existence whose incubation period is two minutes.. something that does not exist in the world of virology at all, which infects corpses, so they rise and move and turn into eaters of human flesh, killing the healthy so they rise from death with the same infection, etc. You also notice that the zombie doesn't "eat" the person chasing him.. it bites him and moves on.. it just "tastes" him.. or it kills him and leaves him to turn into a zombie in turn.. because otherwise the film would have finished after four minutes.

This hypothesis is cinematically very exciting and I love it.. but scientifically.. it is pure nonsense, and impossible to realize.. that a dead person moves and runs after others biting them.. that is impossible.. as long as the body has no blood circulation.. blood running in the veins... the cells are deprived of oxygen, meaning they disintegrate and collapse.. there is no "Adenosine triphosphate".. meaning there is no creature that could make them move.. not even if it were Satan himself.

In the theme of "transformation" your heroes don't have to turn into zombies and cockroaches and flies and that filth.. you're not sitting writing in the sewers, after all. "The Hulk" and "Spider-Man" and "Robocop", half human and half machine.. these are good models too.. or even "Lucy" in the famous film of the same name.. she turned into a superhuman invisible being of omnipotence surpassing humans.

10 - The theme of the legacy of another world / another civilization: here you are sitting quietly and you find something coming to you from another world.. you dig and find a legacy from a previous civilization.. this legacy is often something supernatural or advanced technology that could turn the world upside down.. this legacy is a double-edged weapon. Mr. "Jonathan Kent" and his wife were sitting in their garden in God's safety.. when they found a small rocket crashing down containing a protective capsule with an infant inside.. this infant, the sun of Earth granted him terrifying super strength.. "Superman".

This family could have used Superman and his power for evil, and defied the law and become gang leaders or professional killers or employees in the neighbourhood.. or even rule the world.. but the family chose the path of good.

In the science fiction film "The Predator" in 2018.. an alien comes from a distant planet.. this is not the first time we meet him.. this is a series of films of which this was the last.. no one knows why he is coming this time.. Earth fights him desperately and seeks to control him or kill him.. but in truth he was coming to grant humanity a gift of technology, to save them because his planet has decided to colonize us.

"Dr. Nabil Farouk" presented this theme to us in the S18 automaton.. the legacy of a previous civilization.. and in the story "The Magician".. about the alien who came to Earth and is pursuing one particular man.. Earth fights him too.. until it becomes clear that this alien is nothing but an honourable security man on his planet.. he only came to save Earth from a black legacy capable of destroying it.. a legacy dozens of years old.

12 - The superhumans: a famous theme presented by Dr. Nabil in a pocket novel of the same name.. from this world came Superman and Spider-Man and the Hulk.. the superhero must have a point of weakness, otherwise the novel will be very boring.. if I as a reader know that he neither dies nor can be defeated. The superhuman too, if he is your hero, must have villains on his own level.

The superhero doesn't have to fly or pass through walls.. the superhero can be a genius.. intelligent.. resourceful.. and that is the secret of his superiority.. "Riddick" in the second scene of the attached video is a model of this.. he had surgery on his eyes that lets him see in the dark.. beyond that he is astonishingly intelligent and resourceful.

"Riddick" raises a new theme, which is number 13.. the philosophy of science.. "Riddick" many times you won't know whether he is good or evil.. in truth he is human.. he has both natures.. but in the end the nature of good always prevails over him.

Batman is a model of a superhero who possesses no extraordinary ability whatsoever.. but his wealth enabled him to employ brilliant minds in his company.. who supply him with advanced technologies and weapons.. without the technologies he is just a man of strong build who is good at fighting. Batman, in a sober American doctoral dissertation in literature, is the strongest of the superheroes.. because without his extraordinary technologies.. he is a man who masters the martial arts and defends himself with his bare fist and fires a gun and drives a car skilfully and jumps from a helicopter and climbs mountains.. while Superman and the Hulk and Spider-Man, and even "Thor" for example, without their powers are fragile and worthless.

14 - "Apocalypse".. the lone hero walking through a ruined land.. searching for any survivor to relieve his loneliness, like "I Am Legend" starring Will Smith.. there is likewise an example in the famous film "2012".. civilization has ended and collapsed or is about to, because of a natural disaster, a plague, a nuclear war, etc.. and in it a group of survivors.. each one trying to save himself...

Among the most beautiful films that carried this theme is "The Book of Eli" with "Denzel Washington".. a lone man striving to reach an island on which are the last civilized people of the human race after civilization collapsed.. and he fights cannibals and gangs and addicts, in order to arrive and present to this civilization something extremely precious.. the last of its kind on the face of the earth. In a shot from the film, in scene number 3.. the film has an astonishing plot twist.. that the hero is, in the heart of this terrifying hostile world.. unseeing.. blind.

15 - Romance: impossible love.. between a human man and a female alien who resembles humans, or the reverse.. there are academics who try to push this theme by force because it turns into "Erotic Sci-fi" and I honestly don't understand why or how.. I could write you a novel about a love story in space, with all its difficulties and dangers and even sex.. but sex alone, how would an entire science fiction novel be built on it? You might find that in cheap illustrated comic strips.. but in a full literary science fiction novel revolving around it.. that is almost impossible.

Among these romantic stories is a story by Dr. Nabil called "The Depths" in the Cocktail 2000 series.. the hero of the story is a military technical engineer who met a submarine of beings from the people of Atlantis, and he loved a girl among them and she loved him.. he repaired their submarine for them.. but the love story ended with the parting of lovers.

A love story doesn't have to lead to sex or to love in its common sense between "a man and a woman" or marriage in the world of literature, otherwise it would be an Arabic film with Zahrat El-Ola and Shoukry Sarhan.. the school of romanticism includes the relationship between you and God.. nature.. family and father and mother and homeland, etc.. the definition of romanticism in literature is the novel that narrates a spiritual relationship within a framework of adventure and mystery and great values such as courage and so on.. and not just a "love story". The gorilla's relationship with the hero of the story "Congo" was purely romantic, because she considered him her father.. and the relationship of the robot child "David" in "A.I." with the lady who bought him was entirely romantic.. despite him being a robot.. but he considered her his mother.

16 - "Language" is among the themes of science fiction.. imagine that you met aliens who came and are trying to communicate with you.. no one speaks the other's language.. the inscriptions you see on the walls of a cave on Mars in an unknown language.. this language, if you plumb its depths, might lead you to a dangerous secret.. the difference in tone and voice and dialect turned the matter into a deadly weapon in the film "Mars Attacks".. it turned out that any human voice of a certain pitch singing makes the heads of the invaders swell and explode.. and that is what saved Earth from invasion.. of course, setting aside that, say, the pitch of "Hamou Bika"'s voice might make your own head swell and explode.. the idea in the film was new.. innovative.

In the film "The Predator" that we talked about above.. there is an autistic child.. autism had crept with him to the edges of genius, so he deciphered the language of the invaders and understood it and dealt with their devices and saved the world. In the film "Independence Day", deciphering the language of the alien invaders let humans decipher the language of their programming and send them a virus programmed in that same language that destroys their devices. The theme is not as boring as it seems from its name at first glance.

18 - The theme of space wars.. of course we all know Star Wars and those stories.. it branches into several other themes, among them "military confrontation" and political conflicts.. but military confrontation and political conflicts are not main themes.

Theme number 19 is "consciousness", including perception and foreseeing tomorrow and super-sensory perception.. and we will talk about it along with the remaining themes next time, God willing.

And the conversation still has more to come.
