One of the most important causes of depression with dieting is that the person doesn't observe the balance required in the diet.. so he avoids certain foods or just reduces quantities.. and that can cause him a deficiency in some "trace elements"..
These elements, even though we need them in small quantities, any imbalance in them can disrupt vital functions in the body.. among these elements are iron, copper, manganese, magnesium, calcium, selenium, fluoride, and zinc, etc..
Imagine if your diet, the one you're doing well and which is giving you results, caused you a magnesium deficiency.. here your body's secretion of "Serotonin" will drop, and it is responsible for making you feel at ease and happy, and for relieving pressure and tension.. because the production and function of serotonin depend on the availability of magnesium.. so you'll become depressed without a clear reason for you..
The diet must contain a lot of fruit and fresh vegetables because most of these elements are present in them.. there are elements that some people need more than others.. those who practice violent, exhausting sports will need "potassium" more than an ordinary man..
There are elements whose function is to help you benefit from other elements.. for example, a deficiency of "Vitamin C" will prevent you from absorbing iron.. a zinc deficiency is a catastrophe.. but taking more than the permitted dose will interfere with calcium absorption..
The matter is a precise divine balance.. you must observe it and not neglect it..
If you follow the diet this way.. and give your body all the elements, it's very hard for you to become depressed..
Exercise is necessary just like food and drink.. exercise is the movement that drives blood through your veins and makes your heart beat strongly and your body sweat.. so don't tell me "well, I play bowling" and "chess is a mental sport".. and "I go out walking".. the walking that counts as exercise is brisk walking - the one in this photo ..
As for "let's go for a walk on the Corniche.." that isn't exercise, unless the person is ill or your age has passed eighty and you've never practiced any sport in your life.. and these people are among our family, our elders and our friends; we'll come back to them later.. and tell them how they can practice exercise in a certain way that positively affects their health and their lives..
Exercise puts your body under pressure for a limited time.. and in order for your body to relieve that pressure, it secretes special hormones that make you feel happy and comfortable.. and dispel depression..
Exercise that stimulates the heart and body without weights, with ordinary but accelerated movements, is called "Aerobic exercises" or "Cardio".. because it is stimulating, as we said, and uses oxygen mainly in burning and obtaining energy..
The master of cardio exercises and the best of them is running.. followed directly by swimming.. this differs from strength or endurance exercises that involve weights in the iron gym.. and both differ from "Calisthenics"..
Calisthenics is a type of endurance and strength sport.. but with the body's own weight.. not with weights except incidentally.. like the second photo.. that is a form of calisthenics..
So, we've learned that exercise is a necessity in order to regulate mood along with the diet and not fall into depression..
Which is better? Iron? Cardio? Calisthenics?
In order to lose weight we need burning for long hours.. which is the best sport that guarantees us this continuous burning? And can I play a sport daily? And how much time do I need daily?
What do you think of nutritional supplements like proteins and "steroids" injections that make us lose weight and our muscles get stronger with the least effort, and then kill us after a few years?
Well, I'm old.. past eighty.. can I play a sport that improves my health?
I play a sport and then quit.. what should I do?
Is it possible to play a sport at home?
We'll answer that later, and there's more to come..
