Our last episode with Schrödinger’s cat.. these episodes will not make us Einstein or Bohr.. but they will let us know something about a mysterious science.. that remained a priesthood and the monopoly of specialists for a long time.. it also helps secondary-school or engineering students on many points that curricula failed to clarify..

The first parts are in the first reference for anyone who wants to go back to them...

When “Ra” could not control “Sekhmet”.. he consulted the sage of the whole universe “Thoth”.. who already had the solution..

“Thoth” summoned the Nubian god “Dedun”, who specialised in perfumes, incense and colours.. “Thoth” could summon any god in ancient Egypt whenever and wherever he wished, including “Ra” himself.. and the winged gods like “Isis” and “Horus”.. would fold their wings in the presence of “Thoth” out of respect for his terrifying, limitless knowledge..

Anyway, “Thoth” brought the Nubian god “Dedun” and threw into the Nile a mixture of herbs that turned it into a river of beer.. and asked “Dedun” to turn the Nile the colour of blood red.. which whetted Sekhmet’s appetite and which she took to be blood, and she went and drank from it.. and kept drinking until she got drunk and lost consciousness..

And lost her powers and her magical abilities...

And then an assistant of Ra came down.. his name was “Heka”.. who is magic itself incarnate in human form.. and he brought her back in peace..

When she came to, she grieved deeply over what she had done to the Egyptians and asked to be exiled to the city of “Dendera”.. and from that day on, “Dendera” in the minds of the people of Egypt has been linked to something frightening whose nature they do not know.. because “Sekhmet” lives in it.. so you hear from us expressions like “this is the night of Dendera”.. and “we will turn it into Dendera”.. meaning a terrifying night or the like...

Sekhmet’s guilt grows with time and she asks “Ra” to annihilate her.. and put an end to her.. but he refuses, because she is of course the daughter of his beloved.. but he imprisons her in the heart of the cat “Bastet”.. whom we spoke about when we began talking about “Schrödinger’s cat”.. “Ra” can summon “Sekhmet” from Bastet’s heart by provoking Bastet’s anger at any time...

Let us return to quantum mechanics.. and there is a world-famous film called “Paycheck”.. made in 2003...

And “Ben Affleck” is a genius engineer.. whose name is “Michael Jennings”.. but he is dissatisfied with his income and his salary.. so he designs a machine that scientists had failed to design for years..

A quantum computer...

And with his expertise in quantum he develops his machine and his research and reaches a strange result...

With subatomic particles whose speed exceeds the speed of light.. he can breach the barriers of time...

And this vast computer can bring up on his screen real shots from the future...

All you have to do is put your palm on a scanner in the computer.. and it takes a few atoms of you and sends its particles into the future to search for them and receive them and materialise them.. and sends you live images of what happens to you in your future...

And with the machine’s dazzling success.. “Michael” decides to sell it for a billion dollars in one payment...

Events follow one after another.. and then his girlfriend shows him a recording she captured from the machine’s screen.. a recording of shots of what his machine did in the future...

And images of newspaper headlines paraded before him.. and states began predicting each other’s future steps.. and some did not understand the behaviour of others and terrible disputes broke out and..

And the shots ended with the mushroom cloud characteristic of nuclear explosions.. in the heart of New York...

The machine caused the outbreak of a third world war...

Nuclear...

And final...

And here, after Michael had been seeking to sell his machine.. which the Central Intelligence Agency had seized.. he set off trying to sneak in to destroy the machine at any cost..

Einstein in his scientific adventure was the first to embrace the quantum theory and be convinced by it.. and then he went back and rejected it as we saw and entered into an eternal debate with “Bohr”.. and he rejected the idea that a body exists in two places at one time.. or two forms at one time..

Quantum tells us that tiny particles absorb energy in a known amount.. and never settle and come to a state of rest “which is why they said the cat is alive and dead at the same time until we see it.. because it cannot state one condition or else it would be ruling on its stability”.. and it said that it can literally be in two places at one time...

Two American physics doctors picked up the thread of this.. they are “Andrew Cleland” and “John Martinis”...

These two, in 2010.. made a strange machine..

They brought a semiconductor material “meaning a solid material whose ability to conduct electricity they control by adding other elements to it”..

And they made from this material a very fine paddle.. like an oar.. supposed to be able to vibrate like a phone’s vibrator, and they control the frequency of that vibration...

And then they cooled this paddle to 273 degrees Celsius below zero.. and then raised its energy by “one single quantum”...

And they began making it vibrate at a speed of 6 million times per second..

And the paddle released two different electrical charges.. two energies at once.. a weak energy and a large energy at the same time...

And this is one of the phenomena that quantum mechanics spoke about and that Einstein rejected..

Meaning it is as if you are running.. and walking slowly at the very same moment!

Of course this is impossible to happen with you because we said before.. the theory of quantum mechanics simply does not apply to large bodies.. its playground is atomic particles..

And subatomic...

So what is the use of this machine? This machine, besides proving the correctness of the theories of quantum mechanics.. could be the first building block for making a quantum computer..

A computer the size of your smallest fingernail.. carrying all the information about everything in existence.. a computer that can never be hacked because the information on it is encrypted with all possible ciphers at the same moment and changes at the same moment...

And quantum had to drag us into the embrace of Einstein’s relativity.. and a new branch called “Relativistic quantum mechanics” emerged.. trying to bridge the gap between the two theories..

If particles’ speed increases their mass increases.. meaning they grow bigger (except for massless particles like the photon of light).. and they consequently leave the orbit of quantum.. and enter general relativity...

And if the time field changes they likewise enter general relativity..

Imagine that with a certain technology.. in the blink of an eye you travelled to the planet “Mercury” and spent one day there.. and returned to Earth by an instantaneous transfer as well.. in the blink of an eye...

What does one day mean? Meaning you spend a night and a day.. like Earth.. Earth’s movement is what drives the time we know.. night and day...

The fact is, when you return to Earth after a day.. you will find that about two months have passed on Earth..

So why?

Because Mercury’s rotation on its axis is completed in about 58 days.. while Earth’s rotation is completed in 24 hours...

If you left your son, still a newborn, on Earth and went and stayed one day on “Venus”.. and returned.. you would come back to find the boy is now 8 months old.. because a day on Venus equals 243 Earth days...

People who have travelled abroad to industrial countries like Japan or China or America notice this matter in a simpler and clearer way...

As soon as you leave the airport you find life fast.. people in a hurry.. and everyone rushing off.. and no one has time.. the metro has throngs walking fast and moving fast and with a goal and knowing where they are going and what they are moving for.. and you will hear words like “I’m busy”.. “I’m short on time”.. “we must hurry”.. and for a while you feel off balance.. what is this speed and everyone in a hurry.. what is going on...?

After a while.. you find yourself having become like them.. moving fast and in a hurry and your appointments are important and your time has a price...

When you return to your blessed Arab country.. you will feel for days that you are living in a film running at slow speed.. and you find, while you are in a hurry, if you are a doctor going to save a case or you have an exam appointment or an important interview.. you find people forming groups and cliques and walking along the pavement sideways and at their leisure..

And you find a man driving his car not knowing where he is going.. and he signals right and then cuts across you to the left (and curses you in the end because you have no talent for reading his thoughts).. and another holding the fast lane at 8 kilometres an hour.. and then you hear “so do you own the road or what”.. and so on...

After a while you will adapt and become like them too...

The system of time has changed and the time in which you move has changed.. and you notice this for a while because you are “an observer coming from another system”.. but after a while.. you find it is as if you noticed nothing and you have become like them..

So time changes with the change of the system.. according to the speed of the system it slows down or speeds up.. and you do not feel it.. only the one observing you from another system feels it ...

Speeds, sizes and masses change with speed.. and if the mass increases.. and it is no longer a small subatomic particle.. we leave quantum...

And this is a gap between relativity and quantum..

What happens if you bridge this gap?

You could grasp the “graviton”.. the massless unit.. that holds up the edifice of the entire universe.. and binds the planets and stars and galaxies to one another..

Meaning you could make a simple glove.. you point with it at a squadron of tanks and they rise off the ground and you drop them from a height of 30,000 feet and turn them into dough...

You travel without fuel..

You stop nuclear missiles in the air.. and send them back to their sender.. and move from country to country in the blink of an eye...

You make light bend at your command as it does with black holes.. and submit to your orders and signals...

You make it possible to pluck viruses and cancers out of the human body.. the way a magnet pulls iron filings through a fisherman’s net...

You build a facility already raised above the earth’s surface and suspended in the air with no engines and no fuel.. like the “library of Thoth” that he made himself in the tales of ancient Egypt..

The matter is akin to magic..

And the applications of quantum do not end...

With this we have taken an idea of it.. and we have learned why “Schrödinger’s cat” is alive and dead at the same time..

Cats have seven lives anyway...
